Housing in Twin Falls County

The inside story on rent prices
Source: US Census Bureau - ACS 5 Yr 2023

Almost half of renters in the United States pay 1/3 or more of their monthly income for rent (third column above). Compare that with rent in Twin Falls County and Idaho in the first two columns. The optimal rent to household income ratio is 25% to 28% or less. When you pay more than 30% of your income towards rent, your ability to pay for food, transportation, health care, education, and savings becomes increasingly difficult.

Twin Falls: An Agricultural Hub in Idaho

Settlers traveled along the Oregon Trail and began to settle in places like Twin Falls. Local rancher, Ira Burton Perrine, founded the Twin Falls Land and Water Company in 1900 and worked with investors to build Milner Dam that would supply water to convert arid land into fertile farmland.

The city was incorporated in 1905 and grew as an agricultural community. The name "Twin Falls" comes from two nearby waterfalls, Shoshone Falls and Pillar Falls, which are major attractions today.

Recreation in Southern Idaho

Explore the stunning Shoshone Falls, hike along the Snake River Canyon Trail with beautiful vistas of the canyon and surroundings, or cool off at Dierkes Lake where you can swim, fish, or picnic. Twin Falls has over 30 parks and trails to enjoy.

The Perrine Bridge is a hotspot for BASE jumping, attracting thrill-seekers worldwide. The Snake River Canyon provides opportunities for kayaking, rafting, and rock climbing, or soar through the canyon on zip lines at Zip the Snake!
